The founder (Dr Isaac Agyeman-Duah) went on a vacation in Ghana in February 2019. Throughout his interactions with people, he met needy but serious people who needed just $100 to start a business. He was touched by this and decided to help, so he announced that he could give five people a hundred dollars each to start their businesses. This is because, without sufficient and sustainable incomes, families cannot afford nutritious food, clean water, or health care which will lead to loss of lives. He was overwhelmed by the number of people who registered, and the number kept rising anytime he called for an update.
With his background in international organizations, he knows that the United Nations is committed to ending poverty. According to the UN’s SDG 1, “Eradicating poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice and the key to unlocking an enormous human potential. It further states that, “nearly half of the world’s population lives in poverty, and lack of food and clean water is killing thousands every single day of the year.” For the UN, “to end poverty, we all have to take action.”
So, he decided to “take action” to help achieve SDG 1 “End poverty in all its forms everywhere” by establishing an NGO to enable him to raise support to help these people.
He shared the idea with Alex Wiafe Frimpong, Mercy Kyeremeh, Efia Boateng-Asante, and Margeret Ntiamoah and they bought into it, hence the formation of Garden of Grace Foundation Incorporated.
